New Sims 4 Trailer Is Weird

The Sims 4 allows anyone to make any kind of household, no matter how weird it might end up.

If you’ve ever played any of the Sims games before, you’ll know that it can get a little…boring after a while. Why’s that? It’s because it’s a game about people. People lead lives. Sometimes, they’re exciting lives. Other times, they’re boring. In the new trailer for The Sims 4, a Sim leads an exceptionally uneventful life. And sometimes, that’s just what a Sims fan likes.

This male Sim from the trailer is a parody of the ‘Most Interesting Man in the World’ from the Dos Equis beer commercials, according to Joystiq.com. While that may have been the inspiration behind the new trailer, the Sim having an uneventful life is normal in Sims games. Some people don’t play Sims games because they look boring and uneventful. On the contrary, it’s the gamer who has to make it as eventful or uneventful as they please.

Some of us Sim lovers like our Sims average and ordinary! It’s not a crime. That’s the beauty of the Sims games: there are so many things you can do with your Sims and in so many ways. They can look, act, and now they can feel any way you want them to! The trailer merely showcases one aspect of possible gameplay. Sometimes it’s the little things, like “only drinking two cups of coffee a day” that makes the game special.

Joystiq.com mentions something about toddlers and swimming pools not being in The Sims 4. This is actually the genuinely weird part of the entire article because without the toddler life stage in the game, a baby Sim will transform into a child Sim. Aren’t the Sims games supposed to mimic life? The Sims motto was “play with life”. Well in real life, people do not go from babies straight to children. The toddler stage is crucial.

And since weather is a factor that started with the The Sims 2: Seasons expansion, climate now affects Sims in-game as it would people in real life. Sometimes when it’s blistering hot outside, people like to go swimming. No swimming pools means less time outside in-game or that Sims will have to resort to air-conditioning or sprinklers for some relief from the heat. Swimming pools have been present in the Sims game series since The Sims 2 also. How can Sims be deprived of these two essential elements of Sim life? Luckily, someone felt the need to change it.

There’s a petition to overturn the absence of the swimming pool and toddler life stage in The Sims 4 on Change.org. However, it’s not certain whether it will actually change the base game since it’s due in stores early next month. But it’s worth a shot! Currently, there are 21,213 supporters and only 3,787 more Sims fans need to offer their signatures to complete the petition. Sims fans from around the world have signed the petition already. Let’s hope the petition will not be signed in vain.

It’s likely that the toddler life stage and swimming pool features will come in future expansions. Sim Guru Ryan had this to say on TheSims.com:

“And while we recognize that some of you will be disappointed that pools and toddlers won’t be available when The Sims 4 Base Game launches in September, you should know that we’re building an incredibly strong foundation that is capable of fulfilling every one of your desires in the years to come. The future of The Sims 4 is bright!”

We’ll see what kinds of expansions they come up with this time. Let’s hope that EA Games and Maxis won’t let the Sims fanbase down! What would you like to see in future expansions for The Sims 4, aside from the toddler life stage and swimming pools?

The Sims 4 hits the PC September 5.
