According to Fumitsu magazine of Japan, the next installment in the Dragon’s Dogma series will be a free to play online RPG titled Dragon’s Dogma Quest.
Dragon’s Dogma Quest will feature 2-D online gameplay, and focus more on strategy than action combat. Players will be able to chose from over 150 different job types, “issues commands” (whatever that means), and view battles. Additionally you can team up with your friends, each selecting four pawns, to tackle dungeons, explore towns, and venture through sub quests.
Upon release in Japan the game will be complete free, relying on a cash shop for a revenue stream. Historically I have not been a fan of the cash shop model, but we’ll see how it goes.
No information has been released discussing a North American or European release of Dragon’s Dogma Quest, however given the franchises popularity I could see one coming to us down the line.
Dragon’s Dogma Quest will be released as a PS Vita Exclusive in Japan this fall.
