While the PS3 and Xbox 360 are evidently popular in sales all over the world, the Nintendo 3DS is catching up. 3DS sales in the UK have been incredible for the past six weeks, along with the increased interest in 3DS games this year; there have been twice the amount of sales this year than in 2012.
But why?
The release of new 3DS games, such as Luigi’s Mansion, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing and more has captured the interest of 3DS gamers. They have probably been doing a good job of advertising the games and console since there are more buyers this year.
While the major focus of Q4 will be on the Wii U, consumer marketing head James Honeywell says that this will not affect the 3DS negatively. Nintendo is planning on focusing their marketing campaigns for the upcoming Pokémon, Professor Layton and Zelda games. Still, people seem to be surprised that the 3DS is ranked number one in the UK.
Honeywell says,
“As we move into peak, Pokémon X and Y is our big launch. They’re already doing fantastically well. It will be as big a launch as Animal Crossing, if not bigger.”
3DS owners, you’re in for some super awesome. If you don’t own a 3DS, why not buy one?
