Nintendo Announces Partnership with Illumination to Produce Mario Movie

Illumination will produce the first fully 3-D Super Mario Movie.

The couple-month old rumor that Illumination Entertainment would create a Super Mario movie has now been confirmed via Nintendo of America’s Twitter. The movie will be co-produced by Nintendo veteran Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination Founder and CEO Chris Meledandri.

Illumination is known for creating such animated movies as Despicable Me, Minions, and Sing. There is no word yet on the details of the Mario movie or a release date, but speculation has begun as to whether Mario will be given a true voice or be relegated to his iconic phrases, such as “Here we go!” and “Yahoo!”
