It’s no hidden fact that Nintendo has been on somewhat of a decline in recent years and has many of their investors curious about what the company is going to do in the future.
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said that while there are certain aspects of the business that will not change, there are some ideas in development such as the ‘Quality of Life’ program, which will focus on health, and even the successor to the Wii U. At the time, there was not a lot of specifics that Iwata could talk about, but he stated that details would be ready for release later on this year.
One of those ideas, which he says will redefine video game platforms, will take about two years.
He reassured his investors by saying Nintendo isn’t even close to being out of ideas for the future, and have a rough idea of where they want to go with the next generation. Nintendo will not rush the next console because of the need to make sure the current customers are satisfied with the gaming systems already on the market.
As far as the Wii U goes, Iwata is not giving up on there being that one major title that boosts sales. He refers back to the Game Boy when it first came out by saying,
“As many of you probably remember, before the release of the Pokémon game, Game Boy had been showing slow growth, and many people wondered whether it was the end of Game Boy. But the Pokémon game singlehandedly changed the landscape of the system, which then started to show the strongest sales in the life-cycle of the system.”
This bit of reassurance from Nintendo must be somewhat of a relief to their often diehard fans. There has always been potential and it sounds as though they have gathered information and are beginning to formulate a plan to get Nintendo back to the top with the other titans of the gaming world.
