Nintendo Switch Outsold All Other Consoles in December in North America

Nintendo continues their modern renaissance, posting a record 1.5 million units sold last month.

If sales figures are any indication, it seems as though Nintendo can truly do no wrong. Between Breath of the Wild putting up huge numbers worldwide (including in Japan, where Zelda games are less popular than in the West), games like Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, and even a new Pokemon game being announced, and now a reported 1.5 million consoles moved in December of last year alone, we seem to be staring down the barrel of another Nintendo-dominated renaissance.

According to IGN, “At the beginning of the month, Nintendo announced the Switch was the fastest-selling console in US history, selling 4.8 million units since its introduction in March 2017…The success of Switch seems to have bled over to Nintendo 3DS, with Nintendo reporting it sold 750,000 units in the month, a ’27 percent increase over the same period a year ago.'”

The numbers don’t stop there. IGN further goes on to say that when we look at the Switch, 3DS, and SNES Classic, “half of all hardware sold during the month was from Nintendo.”

The flagship company shows no signs of slowing down, either. With the recent announcement of Nintendo Labo, a cardboard based peripheral builder that’s much cooler than it sounds, Nintendo clearly has no interest in stopping their winning streak.
