Nvidia Flips The 1080p Switch On Nvidia Grid

Nvidia Grid now supports full HD streaming to its current and future Shield devices.

It looks like NVIDIA’s game streaming service NVIDIA GRID is taking off the training wheels and going for the full HD experience. Previously streaming games to SHIELD devices at 720p 60 fps, the service will now start streaming at 1080p at 60 fps. Something to note, this will draw much more bandwidth from your internet as much more detail will need to be streamed directly to your device.

For those who are unfamiliar, NVIDIA GRID is a free game streaming service that works solely with NVIDIA’s SHIELD line of devices. This includes the Tablet, Portable, and soon to be released Android TV. The service works similarly to others like Netflix and Hulu, but instead of instant access to movies and shows, its video games. No installation required, with the exception of the NVIDIA GRID app itself.

It’s pretty amusing to see that this level of fidelity is possible and responsive over a wireless network when current generation consoles have difficulty producing content at these levels of definition. Some may say that there is no difference between 720p and 1080p, but I think they just haven’t taken the time to compare the two.
