Old Meets New in Wonder Boy: Monster World IV Remake

Asha in Monster World, the Wonder Boy: Monster World IV remake, pays homage to the original while updating in key ways.

Monster World IV creator Ryuichi Nishizawa is returning to head up production for Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World, but that’s not Asha‘s only homage to the original. ININ games announced physical versions of Asha in Monster World come with the original Wonder Boy IV, regardless of the edition.

The news came alongside a new trailer highlighting the remastered Wonder Boy IV‘s sleek new look and gameplay.

Asha sticks to the original’s story and gameplay where possible, just as Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap did. But in addition to improved graphics, it boasts modernized gameplay and voice work from Ai Fairouz of One Punch Man and Fruits Basket fame.

Asha must journey through the fantastical Monster World to rescue four spirits trapped by evil forces, and she’s joined by the illegally adorable Pepelogoo, who offers some assistance navigating Monster World’s treacherous platforming challenges.

Aside from the standard edition, ININ is releasing three editions of Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World, all through Strictly Limited Games.

  • Limited Edition — $39.99
  • Collector’s Edition — $99.99, includes Monster World map, remastered and original OST, artbook, “squishy” Pepelogoo, and more.
  • Mega Collector’s Edition — $179.99, includes everything shown in the image at the top of this post.

Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World is set for release for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 sometime between April and June 2021.
