Overwatch League gets its first Female Player

Geguri finally gets her shot at the Overwatch League. The famous Zarya player is expected to be signed by the Shanghai Dragons and would be the first woman to play in the OWL.

Kim “Geguri” Se-yeon is expected to join the Shanghai Dragons per ESPN’s Rod Breslau. Geguri made headlines in 2016 when she was accused of cheating by pros, after she dominated them with her Zarya play. After proving she wasn’t cheating, the pro players who accused her resigned from professional Overwatch as a way to apologize for their disrespectful and irresponsible accusations.

People following the OWL from the beginning were shocked when Geguri wasn’t initially signed by a team, considering she was one of the best off-tanks around. Most teams claimed that communication issues would be the hardest aspect of taking on Geguri because she speaks Korean. Joining the Chinese Shanghai Dragons means she, along with two other South Korean players new to the team, will have to learn Mandarin to communicate with the rest of the team.

Hopefully the new players coming to the Shanghai Dragons can bring new life to a team that still has not won a match. Be sure to keep an eye out for her in Stage 2 of the Overwatch League.
