While we over here are waiting for Sega to release Phantasy Star Online 2 in North America, Southeast Asia is getting its very own English server courtesy of publisher Asiasoft. No release date has been given just yet, but we can at least take solace in the fact that there is an English version on the way.
The Japanese version of Phantasy Star Online 2 has more than 1.7 million players, including those native to Japan and people overseas playing with guides. The game is consistently being updated, as it is one of the biggest games in the country.
While the Southeast Asian server will suffice for some time, provided there are no IP restrictions, when will Sega finally be bringing the game to the West? They initially announced the game for an early 2013 release, but have since pushed it back and been silent for the most part.
Are we going to see Phantasy Star Online 2 in the West this year at all? We’ll have to continue to wait for Sega to make their move, but an English release in another territory such as the Southeast Asian release may be a good sign.
