Who knew that video games would finally be represented by a country in the World Cup? Certainly not me but yes it’s true. For the first time a video game character will be used as an official mascot. Japan’s Blue Samurai have chosen Pikachu and ten other characters as their official mascots for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Pikachu is the official mascot for Japan along with Bulbasaur, Charmander, Chespin, Delphox, Froakie, Helioptile, Litleo, Meowth, Pancham, and Squirtle.

Poor Hello Kitty…

The Japan Football team’s official uniform designer, Adidas, had announced its partnership with Nintendo this week. Nintendo is also having a special promotion that can get you a free copy of Pokémon X or PokémonY. Customers who register a 2DS, 3DS or 3DS XL system and a qualifying game on Club Nintendo will be able to download a free copy of either game. The promotion is running until March 31st.

How awesome is this?
