Oculus Rift just gave consumers a big reason to take it seriously.

If you ask just about anybody what their most anticipated game is for the Oculus Rift, there’s a good chance that EVE: Valkyrie is going to be the answer. Well, apparently the developers of the hotly awaited VR peripheral are a step ahead of the pack. According to a tweet that went out this morning, anyone who pre-orders the Oculus Rift will get a copy of EVE: Valkyrie for free.

One of the biggest hurdles in introducing a new accessory is convincing the masses that it is worth dropping top dollar for on Day 1 without having any frame of reference. Motion control is a prime example of this as both Microsoft’s Kinect and Sony’s PlayStation Move failed to gain any legitimate traction from the get-go. But, to be fair, neither of those peripherals had any games that came close to offering what EVE: Valkyrie is.

Quick Take: This is certainly a big play for the Oculus Rift, which has endured it’s share of idealistic criticism on Kickstarter from backers after the device was sold to Facebook. EVE: Valkyrie is far and away the best-looking game for Oculus Rift, but I’m not ready to jump on the bandwagon just yet. There isn’t much indication of the game being anything more than simple eye candy (really pretty eye candy at that), but that remains to be seen.
