Taking place between Borderlands 1 and 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel sees players teaming up with Handsome Jack, future villain of Borderlands 2, and will show Jack’s rise into the megalomaniac that we all know.

The game will feature four new playable characters, and they are all characters that we have seen in the past games: Athena, the gladiator; Wilhelm, future robotic boss; Nisha, the Lawbringer; and Claptrap. Everyone’s favorite robot is back as a playable character, and will go by The Fragtrap this time around. If things go like past Borderlands games, these four characters will all have their own unique style of play and abilities.

This time around, the game will take place on Pandora’s moon, Elpis.

There will be new types of baddies to blast away this time, including Scavangers, Lunatics, and giant bandits in NASA spacesuits. Because you are on a moon this time around, there will be a difference in gravity and atmosphere. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will have an all-new oxygen system that will keep you breathing on your visit to the moon.

The setting also gives you an oxygen-powered jetpack, allowing you to do insanely long moon jumps and double jumps. Combining the double jump with your crouch will allow you to do ground-pounding slams that deal effect damage, and can also deal elemental damage. Like ammunition, oxygen is lootable, and there will be plenty to go around.

As this is Borderlands, there will be gazillions of new guns.

Along with new guns, there are also new elemental and weapon types. In Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, there will now be laser type weapons that be shot in short bursts or in a continuous stream. You will also to now be able to wield freezing Cryo weapons. These weapons allow you to freeze your enemies and smash them into pieces. Sounds like a good time is on the way.

If there is one franchise that I love, its Borderlands. I am not much of an FPS player, yet I absolutely enjoy the series.

There is something about shooting and looting that I love. I am hoping that the new mechanics keep the gameplay fresh, and that the action is still frantic and crazy. I am a little disappointed that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is not on next-gen systems, but I am glad I kept my PS3. With the ability to finally play as Claptrap and the assortment of new mechanics and weapons, you can color me excited for this entry in the Borderlands series.
