Releasing on Steam Tomorrow – Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+

A new update releases for Pac-Man Championship Edition DX tomorrow which will officially rebrand the title, and will also contain new features and new content!
This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

Fans of Pac-Man Championship Edition DX might be interested to know that a new update will be released on September 25, 2013.  The update will release on Steam and will contain new features and content to improve the original Pac-Man Championship Edition DX.

The original Pac-Man Championship Edition DX was similar in some ways to the original Pac-Man that was released in 1980, but was redesigned for the 21st Century with better graphics and new mazes.  One of the coolest features of Pac-Man Championship Edition DX is that, as you progress further in each maze, the game speed increases and it helps to increase the difficulty of that maze.

New or Improved Features

Pac-Man Championship Edition DX has a leaderboard function that helps each player to know how they stack up against other players, and DX+ is going to improve on the leaderboard’s capabilities.  The new update will now also allow players to challenge their friends and will now allow players to achieve “medals” to show off their skills.  Having played a little of Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, it will be interesting to see what DX+ brings to the table in these areas.

New Downloadable Content

No update is complete without some added downloadable content and DX+ is no exception.  DX+ will feature four new courses, (Big Eater, Championship III, Highway II and Mountain) as well as three new skins for the game that are based off of Dig Dig, Rally-X and Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures.  The new courses will give each player new mazes to complete while the skins help to change the overall look of the game.

The Rally-X skin is a throwback to another popular Namco game released in 1980.

The update will also include two new background music tracks to the game (Pac-Steps and Re-Entrance).  It is good to note that all of this downloadable content was made available in the “All You Can Eat Add-On Pack” DLC bundle.

Having never played the full version of Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, I might have to look into purchasing DX+ when it releases on Steam tomorrow.  The update will act as a rebrand for Pac-Man Championship Edition DX and will cost $9.99 when it releases.  Overall, not a bad price for a game that has received critical acclaim from several reviewers.

Will you be checking out Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+ when it releases tomorrow (September 25, 2013)?  The game looks incredibly addicting so I might be checking it out tomorrow, and if I do I might write a follow-up article for anyone interested in hearing more about it.
