Remnant 2 Challenger Archetype Trailer Brings a Tank to the Apocalypse

The latest archetype in Remnant has been unveiled with a new trailer.

The new Remnant 2 Challenger Archetype reveal trailer shows that you’ll be able to play a modern take on a medieval knight in the Souls-like shooter this summer. Covered in armor and wielding a giant chainsaw-bladed long sword, the Challenger is the heavy hitter of the Archetype group. Here’s what we know about the armored beefcake.

The Challenger is a class purpose-built for those that like to be in the middle of battle, tanking damage and dealing damage back to enemies. Classified as a close- to mid-range attacker, he has more than a giant sword. The Challenger also has a little friend (read: gun — he also has a gun) for more “disengaged” combat.

Not only can the Challenger dish out the pain, but he can take it as well. With the Die Hard Prime Perk, he becomes invulnerable for five seconds while healing 100% of his Max Health, making him an armored meat shield for his companions.

The Challenger reveal trailer also gave us a look at some of his skills:

  • War Stomp: Creates a high-impact tremor that deals 210 damage and additional stagger in a forward cone up to 7.5m. Deals damage in all directions at point blank range.
  • Juggernaut: Become nearly unstoppable, gaining Bulwark L3, 15% increased Movement and Melee Speed, and 50% increased Melee Damage. Stagger Damage is reduced by 1. Lasts 25 seconds.
  • Rampage: Enters a heightened state of battle which increases Fire Rate by 15%, Reload Speed by 20%, and Movement Speed by 10%. Lasts 20 seconds. Dealing high damage to enemies grants 1 stack of Rage, which increases Ranged Damage by 5% per stack. Upon reaching 10 stacks, the Challenger goes Beserk, which reloads their current firearm and doubles Rampage effects for 20 seconds.

With all those movement skills, you’d think the Challenger’s heavy armor would hold him back. That’s where his Archetype Trait Strong Back comes into play, according to developer Gunfire Games. Starting at level one, it reduces Encumbrance by 1, increasing each level until hitting 10 Encumbrance reduction. Nothing is going to stand in the way of a stampeding Challenger.

The Challenger Archetype reveal makes the character sound like a lot of fun to play. He’ll take up arms alongside the Gunslinger and the Handler so far, with more to come. Remnant 2 is planned for a summer 2023 release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Stay tuned for more.
