Rockstar Games confirmed Grand Theft Auto 6 is indeed real and in production. What it is and when GTA6 might release is still a complete mystery at this point, though.

The news comes from a Kotaku report by Jason Schreier. It’s a follow-up to his earlier report about crunch at the studio, but his Rockstar sources confirm in it that the developer is working on the much-anticipated sequel. It’s not set for release anytime soon, however.

Another thing Rockstar told Schreier is that the team is approaching development differently. Rather than being one massive game, GTA6 is set to be a moderately-sized game supported with regular content additions after launch.

This decision is part of the studio’s ongoing efforts to avoid the kind of crunch they experienced during Red Dead Redemption 2‘s development, along with management and culture changes.

So far, we still don’t know too much about what Grand Theft Auto 6 might be like. Some rumors point to a return to Liberty City, while London rumors are still persistently floating around as well. Those extensive Project Americas rumors about GTA6 focusing on drug lords in the ’70s and ’80s haven’t disappeared either.

Whatever GTA6 ends up being, though, you can bet it’ll more than likely end up on PC and probably next-gen consoles too.

The full story is over on Kotaku. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more Grand Theft Auto 6 news as it drives quickly away from the authorities in a hijacked car.
