Rockstar: We Had Ideas That Could’ve “Pushed GTAV Further”

Rockstar said they had a "huge volume of plans and ideas" for GTAV. Wonder what they were?

Grand Theft Auto V is a massive game.  But did you know that developer Rockstar actually had a boatload of “plans and ideas” that didn’t make the cut?

In speaking to Edge, art director Aaron Garbut commented on the fact that his team is “never short of ideas.”  Interestingly, he wanted to clarify that he didn’t believe the game fell shy of the studio’s expectations. Only, as a developer gets closer to release, there are ideas and theories that must be cast aside:

“As a group of people, we’re never short of ideas. There are always things that come up during development that you want to add.  Often we do, but the closer you get to release, the less that happens. I don’t feel like the game fell short, but there is undoubtedly a huge volume of plans and ideas that we wanted to do to push it further.”

So, what did you cut? Any Saints Row-like craziness?

As Garbut didn’t provide any details concerning the plans that didn’t make the cut, we’ll just have to guess.  What do you think they could’ve put in?  The sheer size and scope of GTAV is pretty ridiculous, but it also opens the door to numerous possibilities.  I know some old-school fans want the jetpack back, for example.

“I don’t feel like the game fell short, but there is undoubtedly a huge volume of plans and ideas that we wanted to do to push it further.”

Which, by the way, brings up a good point: GTA isn’t as ludicrously silly and over-the-top as the popular Saints Row franchise; many open-world aficionados prefer the latter series for this very reason.  Remember, there was a time when GTA was more about random silliness and rag doll physics as opposed to the more authentic, serious bent we saw in GTA IV.  A little of the zaniness returned in GTAV, but could there have been more…?
