Scalebound gameplay revealed at Gamescom 2015

Upcoming Xbox exclusive finally shows off what it's all about.

Platinum Games Director Hideki Kamiya dropped by the Xbox Briefing at Gamescom today to deliver the world premiere gameplay demo for the upcoming Xbox exclusive, Scalebound.  What followed was a five-minute display of non-stop high (with a twist of modern) fantasy action that pretty well established what players can expect from the story and the kinds of interactions the with the dragon companion in combat.

The demo starts off with a CG cutscene, establishing the protagonist as a novice “Beast Tamer,” a term used by the enemy troops whose encampment the heroes land in.  Things obviously take a turn for the worse, and the game quickly jumps into combat.  You can watch the trailer below.

One of the first notable things revealed is that the player will be able to command the dragon to destroy enemy obstacles on the fly, further reinforcing the theme of the player and the dragon as one tandem unit.

The game features both melee and ranged combat as well as the use of status-altering items to gain an edge in combat.

At the end of the demo, the trailer also announces that the game will support four-player co-op, a surprising and welcome addition.

Scalebound is unfortunately still a ways away from its Holiday 2016 release, but there is still more footage set to be unveiled over the next few days.
