Shadowrun finally returns! After a great game on the SNES that stayed true to the roots of the game and an FPS that while the gameplay was enjoyable and new, did not really feel like it should have used the tag of “Shadowrun” we will be seeing a release of a game that goes back to old turn based RPG style games from the 90’s such as Fallout or Baldur’s Gate.

The game has been funded by a Kickstarter project in which the developers of the game stated through a video they were interested in doing a new Shadowrun game in order to serve the fans out there and for their own enjoyment. It was a refreshing course, a game that wasn’t there to be flashy and try to commercialize and bastardize what it could be for sales but wanted to appeal to a community. The project was successful and actually raised much more than needed.

A few weeks ago gameplay was released in the form of a twenty minute Youtube video where the game world and movement was shown. Character interactions and a side mission showcased different styles of gameplay and interesting ways to interact with the environment. The developers have stayed true to their word and have stuck to a world that resembles a tabletop game, with all the intriguing and imaginative ways to solve puzzles and get through encounters.

I am truly excited for the release of Shadowrun Returns which is right now available for preorder for a price cheaper than its release. Please consider checking it out and supporting small projects for the community like this. Remember it’s not all about graphics and flashy sounds and sometimes it’s about support and fun! Release is slated for early summer 2013.
