The beta was announced on the SimCity Twitter, which reads:

The Beta is taking place Jan 25-28. Be the first to play a one hour slice of the game

As with just about every EA product these days, you will have to sign up for and use Origin in order to take part in the beta. You can sign up now, if you fear you might forget the date.

This new addition to an old series looks like a mixed bag for the time being. The game looks great from a visual perspective, but the sheer scope of building seems to be a bit smaller. The game’s DRM that requires that players be online to save (lest they’re kicked from the game) is more than a little disappointing as well.

We’ll just have to wait for the beta to see if this entry to the SimCity series will be able to match up with its predecessors.
