Sony Producing One-Punch Man Live Action Movie

The acclaimed manga and anime is getting a trip to the silver screen at some point in the future.

Sony is making a One-Punch Man live-action movie, according to an exclusive Variety report. Arad Productions, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg are all involved, though there’s no estimated release date as of yet.

Arad Productions is producing the One-Punch Man movie. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because the studio was responsible for the likes of Iron Man and, more recently, Venom. Pinkner and Rosenberg wrote the highly successful Venom, also for Sony, along with the recent Jumanji remake and its upcoming sequel.

Variety’s sources said Sony is very keen on One-Punch Man thanks to its popularity. After bursting onto the webcomic scene in 2009, the series went on to become a best-selling manga series and a hugely popular anime. The manga was even nominated for an Eisner and Harvey Award (given for achievements in comics).

There’ve also been video game adaptations of varying success.

The film’s story reportedly revolves around Saitama, a hero who lives up to his one-punch moniker. He can defeat any opponent with one punch and has since become bored. So far, it seems the One-Punch Man movie will be a re-telling of the primary story, but how close it will stick to the original manga is uncertain.

Note too that this is purely a Sony creation. Despite fitting with the newly launched PlayStation Productions’ mission and projects, it’s separate from Sony’s newest movie studio.

The exclusive original story is over on Variety. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more One-Punch Man news as it develops.
