Yooka-Laylee is an upcoming 3D platform game from Playtonic Games, a new studio made up of many ex-Rare employees. The title of the game is also the name of the main characters, Yooka and Laylee. Yooka is a green chameleon and Laylee is a bat that perches on Yooka’s shoulders. The two characters were designed by the same creator of iconic duo Banjo and Kazooie, Steven Mayles, who also designed the Kong family.

There are not many details known about the game yet but Playtonic have revealed some gameplay mechanics and footage via IGN.

As seen in the footage below, Yooka is the front-runner, quite literally, and has a roll move that speeds up movement. Yooka can also use his tongue like a grappling hook, to swing between trees etc. Meanwhile Laylee can fly, much like Kazooie, and unleash solar blasts. Eurogamer will have the first hands-on impressions with the game tomorrow.

Playtonic Games is setting up a Kickstarter for Yooka-Laylee, starting May 1st, which promises lots of bonuses to funders. The game is set to release on PS4, Xbox One, Wii U and PC, if funded. Stay tuned for more on Yooka-Laylee.
