Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers have both been delayed, according to two separate announcements this morning. Final Fantasy 7 Remake is delayed to April 10, and Marvel’s Avengers got pushed back to September 4.

Square Enix issued a press release with Final Fantasy 7 Remake‘s producer Yoshinori Kitase saying the delay pushes FF7R‘s release date from March 3 to April 10. Kitase says the delay will “ensure we deliver a game that is in-line with our vision, and the quality that our fans who have been waiting for deserve.”

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is one of this year’s most anticipated titles, promising a massive expansion of the game’s opening Midgar section and all the goodness that entails.

While we’re looking forward to it, we also can’t deny its delay eases the March strain somewhat. Nioh 2, Animal Crossing: New HorizonsDoom Eternal, the recently-announced Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, and Persona 5 Royal are all slated for release the same month after all.

Crystal Dynamics’ delay is apparently a bit meatier, though we still don’t get much context from Square. The announcement reads basically the same as the Square Enix one, saying the game is delayed from May 15 until September 4 so the team can use that extra time for greater polish to deliver a better experience.

At the time of writing, the Crystal Dynamics website is actually undergoing maintenance, though IGN quoted the press release in full.

It’s possible we’ll get the Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo in March as compensation, and Marvel’s Avengers might get some screen time during E3 now as well. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more Final Fantasy 7 Remake news and Marvel’s Avengers news as it develops.
