The new Alpha update brings many important changes to Star Citizen. Let's take a quick look.

Star Citizen, the highly anticipated spaceflight MMO, has raised millions since developer Cloud Imperium Games began crowdfunding in 2012. And the game has made steady progress since. Now, Alpha 2.6.2 has launched.

The new patch adds a multiplayer mega map to Arena Commander and Star Marine modes. Improvements to Star Marine are expected to make gameplay more enjoyable, per the developer. What’s more, enemy players will now be killed upon entering the spawn room, while prone and melee have been temporarily pulled due to exploits.

Wide screens are now supported with new screen resolutions, too, and the update also includes an incredible amount of bug fixes, including several adjustments to ships, camera modes, first-person perspectives, the user interface, and more.

Players are recommended to change the game’s files to optimize this patch:

Your launcher should show “2.6.2-521494” as the client version. It is strongly recommended that players delete their USER folder for the Live client after patching, particularly if you start encountering any odd character graphical issues or crash on loading. The USER folder can be found (in default installations) at C:Program FilesCloud Imperium GamesStarCitizenPublic.

There is no launch date for Star Citizen at this time. New players can join the Alpha by creating an account and purchasing a game package, starting at $45.
