Star Wars: BattleFront III and More!

What if Battlefront III had made it?
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Apparently there is footage out there of an early build of Star Wars: BattleFront III before it got canceled.

Watch it here.

Seriously though, aside from the graphical inadequacy and awful frame rate, this looks like some freaking Battlefront!  In fact, this is making me want to reinstall Battlefront II and wreak some havoc across the stars.

Also, did you see that space to ground stuff? Think of the battles that you will never experience…

Your mission is clear: Take out the Empire’s Star Destroyer.

You are released onto the battlefield vulnerable and open to attack from all directions; taking in a breath, you charge forth. Blasting and fighting your way through the hoards of Clone Troopers, a TIE Fighter comes screaming down from the heavens and crashes next to you in a fiery explosion as shrapnel flies in all directions.

You turn your sight skyward and you witness the blackened sky light up by the lasers of the ships dog fighting above.  X and Y Wing ships spinning and dodging the onslaught of TIE Fighters pouring through the smoke filled air.  The flames, explosions, and spatterings of gun fire raining down from above make the journey to your own ship that much more difficult.

A T4-B Heavy Assault Tank rumbles past you and lets out a rhythmic set of deafening cannon blasts on the Empire base in the distance.  You run past it, shooting through a few clone troopers as they attempt to set a waypoint for their fellow troops.  Your goal is almost in sight as you dash into the hanger harboring your ship and quickly board it.

Your R4-E1 begins to squeak and squeal as large mortar strike hits the hanger and the building quakes and starts to crumble.  You quickly launch out of the bay and up into the sky, feeling safe until the first gun fire shoots past your ship.

You take immediate action and roll then spin around behind the enemy ship.  You unleash a barrage of shots that pierce through the enemy and send their ship careening to the ground in a ball of fire.

Mind back on the mission you pull back on the controls and speed up your fighter as it screeches toward the darkening depths of space.  Alarms and beeps warn you of possible malfunctions but you ignore them.  Metal and glass creak and creak as you make your mad dash for the great beyond. Your nose begins to bleed and your eyes ache from the building pressure as you finally break through the mesosphere and into the thermosphere.

The blood from your nose and shattered ship debris float in front your face as the silence of space envelopes your senses.  You continue onward toward a huge triangular ship surrounded by fleets of other fighters locked in combat.  These small battles are of no concern to you. You have a much larger goal.

You snake your way through an asteroid field filled with mines and random gun fire from distant battles.  Maneuvering between the massive rocks as they collide and bounce off each other reminds you of your simulation training and it has you on your toes.  As you reach the end of the asteroid field, you see the docking bay for the Star Destroyer. Steading yourself, you make a straight shot for it.

Suddenly a piece of debris from a destroyed ship hits your tail end and send you in a spiral.  You struggle to maintain control as you slip your oxygen mask over your face and yank on the controls.

You open your eyes momentarily to see the planet below. The face of it scared with fire and destruction.  You blink and see the docking bay as you rapidly approach, and then you close your eyes…

You feel a sudden jolt, and then the grinding and smashing of your ship as it flips end on end until you are abruptly launched from your seat.  Tumbling and tossing, you slide across the sleek floors of the Empire ship until you hit a shipping container.  You open your eyes, startled to see some droids running to the wreckage of your ship to contain the smoldering flames growing within.

You lift yourself up and limp your way toward your final destination.  Pistol in hand, you shoot to kill the few panicked, ill-trained men you come across.  You finally find the elevator leading to the engine room and slump against its back wall as it swiftly glides to your desired location. Once there,  the doors slide open and you toss in a thermal detonator into the room.  Loud screams are heard before the explosion. Then silence.

You make your way up to the master controls and plant the bomb. You have exactly one minute to find your way back up to the docking bay and steal an enemy ship. But as you lift yourself, up to room’s side entryway opens and a wave of clone troopers run in and lay out covering fire.

You dive behind the control panel and raise your pistol.  Returning with some mild blind fire, you see what is coming.  You look at your watch to see it still ticking down.

46…45…44…43…

You raise from your cover and shoot off a few rounds. Each hitting a target and send their bodies falling to the floor.  As soon as one falls, another rushes into the room replacing him.

30…29…28…27…

You glance over at the bomb laying next to you.  The gun fire fading out and peace replacing the frantic rush to reach the docking bay.

16…15…14…13…

You drop the pistol from your shaking hands and lift them to your face.  Thinking of the ones you are fighting for, the ones you love, the people that had died at your hands…

The timer counts down.

5…

You clench your hands into fists and rise up from the floor.

4…

You turn to the enemies, raising one hand and saluting them with it.

3…

A smile breaks across your bloodied face.

2…

You take one final breath and exclaim.

1…

“Long live the Alliance!”

This experience will never be had.
