It’s not April 1st so I assume this isn’t some sort of cruel prank, and is in fact the awesome truth.

Gamers of the 80s (and early 90s) everywhere will rejoice at the news that Capcom will be releasing Street Fighter X Mega Man in a mere matter of days. It will be available as a free PC download on December 17.

Yes, you read that right – it will be free.

Again, yes, this is a free game, delivered via Capcom Unity’s Mega Man brand page. Simply come back on 12/17 and get the whole thing on the house. As a real blend of two iconic franchises, it’s an amazing way to send SF25 off in style, and kick off MM25 with a bang.

The new release will include a new 8-bit soundtrack from A_Rival that blends the music from both games. Boss fights (the staple of the Mega Man series) will blend the unique aspects of both games as well.

Capcom closed with a message for Mega Man fans:

We know it’s been a hard year for Mega Man fans, but I hope this proves our love and intent to the series, and that we have not heard the last of the little guy.
