Strictly Limited Games Brings Unreleased Arcade Classic Clockwork Aquario to Life

Clockwork Aquario, a 30-year-old, brand-new arcade game is getting the couch co-op treatment on consoles.

Wonder Boy studio Westone Entertainment closed in 1993, and while that was a shame for Wonder Boy fans — for a while, at least — it was even worse for Ryuichi Nishizawa’s arcade platformer Clockwork Aquario. It never released, but 30 years later, Nishizawa and Strictly Limited Games are releasing Clockwork Aquario for the first time.

Clockwork Aquario is a couch co-op game following Huck Londo, a brave hero, Elle Moon, a daring adventuress, and Gush, a compassionate robot, on a futuristic adventure to save the world. “Futuristic” is literal here, because the trio must travel forward in time to try and stop a group of nefarious evildoers bent on destroying the world.

The game features hand-drawn graphics, a candy-color style, and “non-stop action” with a multitude of moves the heroic three can execute to save the day.

Clockwork Aquario will release on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 physically and digitally sometime in 2021’s second quarter (April-June).

It comes in several physical editions.

The limited (or standard) edition sells for $35.99, though the Switch version is already sold out.

Clockwork Aquarios Collector’s Edition costs $82.99 and includes:

  • Original and remixed soundtrack
  • Character cards
  • Acrylic diorama
  • Arcade flyer
  • Arcade coin
  • Art book

The Ultra Collector’s Edition costs $153.99 and comes with:

  • Everything from the Collector’s Edition
  • Figurine
  • Clockwork Aquario shikishi (hand-drawn artwork)

All of these can be found on Strictly Limited Games’ website, though stock levels will vary.
