Niantic made a somewhat vague announcement recently about the coming of global battling in Pokemon GO.

The company called it the “GO Battle League” and said it’s designed to build on existing battle mechanics and will use a matching system to set players up with other opponents around the globe. That means you’re no longer limited to just one location and just people on friends your lists, either.

Presumably, the “existing mechanics” part refers to the tier system and CP cut-off levels that already define PvP in Pokemon GO. However, the announcement had one interesting point Niantic didn’t elaborate on:

Trainers will be able to walk in order to earn entry into the GO Battle League, then battle opponents from around the globe through an online matching system and rise in the ranks of the league.

What sort of walking requirements will gate entry into the global Battle League remain to be seen.

Meanwhile, be sure to check out this year’s Pokemon GO Halloween event, and stay tuned to GameSkinny for more on Pokemon GO’s online battling as it develops.
