Tekken 8 Crossplay and Rollback Netcode Confirmed

Tekken series director Katsuhiro Harada has confirmed that the next installment in Bandai Namco's fighter will have some long-requested features.

You can put your fears to bed. Tekken 8 will have rollback netcode and crossplay. Series director Katsuhiro Harada confirmed that the latest installment in Bandai Namco’s fighting game franchise will have both when answering a question on Twitter this past weekend.

Crossplay and rollback netcode will be a huge boon for expanding Tekken’s player base and ensuring competition doesn’t get stuck on a single console.

What’s interesting to note is that Harada mentions the team tried to bring crossplay to Tekken 7 but wasn’t able to because of Microsoft and Sony being “at odds with each other over their mutual interests.” Sony’s stance on crossplay during the PS4 era is well documented, though the company has since opened the floodgates following fan backlash.

Capcom’s upcoming Street Fighter 6 will also support crossplay and have rollback netcode when it launches in June. Coincidentally, Harada also noted that Tekken 8 will launch with more characters than Street Fighter 6, but we’ll have to wait and see how Tekken 8‘s roster compares to the 18 fighters in SF6.

We’re still quite a ways away from Tekken 8’s launch, though, so anything can happen between now and then. Tekken 8 is currently scheduled for launch in 2024 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
