The Coming Storm – RIFT: Storm Legion

When RIFT: Storm Legion launches on 13 November, the machiavellian Crucia, Dragon of Air, will unleash her Storm Legion across new lands with the intent of activating the Infinity Gate and subjugating all of existence. Or something.

The besieged realm of Telara is about to get ripped a new rift. Already, the embattled Ascended players continue the fight for the existence of their otherworldly realm against the encroaching hordes of Regulos the Destroyer, Devourer of Worlds. But soon, a new more sinister foe will enter the fray.

When RIFT: Storm Legion launches on 13 November, the machiavellian Crucia, Dragon of Air, will unleash her Storm Legion across new lands with the intent of activating the Infinity Gate and subjugating all of existence. Or something.

If this seems a little cryptic, perhaps some more solid information would be preferable.

From information gleaned from available media, the following tasty morsels will be thundering into Trion’s elemental MMO next week:

  • Two “vast” new continents (Brevane and Dusken)

  • Dimensions – customisable shared player and guild “slivers” (instances)

  • An increased level cap, from 50 to 60

  • New souls for each of the callings

  • Mounts and pets

  • Artifacts and achievements

  • New “instant adventure” zone-wide events

  • New raids and dungeons

  • Capes(!)

  • Pure evil (not sure how that’ll be delivered, but I bet it’s a bandwidth hog)

In an effort to raise the bar further, Trion have developed some very impressive-looking visuals to accompany the new storyline content, from stunning scenery to some truly gargantuan opponents. Quite how the Ascended will be able to do anything more than clip the toenails of some of the largest colossi is unclear, but I would imagine being the reanimated spirits of dead heroes probably helps somehow.

“All of those things that made Rift the best MMO of 2011 are amped up in 2012” – Adam Gershowitz, Senior Producer.
