Tom Clancy’s The Division was shown off at Ubisoft’s E3 press conference sporting a rather noticeable graphical downgrade compared to how the game looked when it was first announced.

Now, it appears the game has lost more than its highly polished visuals as the in-development companion app has just been axed. The app would have allowed another player to join in game and provide assistance to their teammates via a mobile device.

The app would have lent the ability to provide offensive and defensive perks, such as raining fire from above using a drone and allowing players to absorb more damage through armor buffs.

However, the god-like powers app users could wield raised concerns that the feature compromised the competitive and strategic nature of the game.

Speaking with IGN about the app’s cancellation, a representative from developer Massive Entertainment said the team felt that the app “created an imbalance.”

Tom Clancy’s The Division will launch next year on March 8th on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A beta will be released on Xbox One later this year, before coming to PS4 and PC in early 2016.

Are you lamenting the loss of the companion app or do you think the feature would have ruined the experience for regular players? Let us know in the comments.
