The Next 3DS Zelda To Have Non-Linear Gameplay?

While A Link Between Worlds will be revisiting the world of A Link to the Past it looks like there will be one big change to the way you'll play!

If you’ve ever played a game in the Zelda series then you know the drill: Start off in a town, get your sword, go off on an adventure to save the princess by defeating monsters in various dungeons along the way. In each dungeon you would find a main item that would allow you to get past certain obstacles in the dungeon you found it in addition to it being very useful throughout the rest of your quest.

You as a player were given a specific order to complete said dungeons; if you didn’t get the item from a previous dungeon (which is highly unlikely) then you would not be able to progress further into the game.

However, with the latest title in the series, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Nintendo has decided to mix things up. Instead, you will be able to purchase or rent a number of items from a shop in the game called “Ravio’s Shop.”

Classic items such as the hookshot, bombs, bow & arrow and of course, the boomerang will be available in addition to other classics fans of the series will be sure to recognize. Breaking the unwritten rule of linear gameplay to non-linear gameplay will give players the choice of how they wish to proceed through the story.

Being a huge Zelda fan myself, I’m pretty happy to see that Nintendo is willing to rethink the series and try something new–but at the same time keep the classic Zelda feel that I’ve come to know and love. With A Link to the Past being my favorite in the series, I am highly anticipating this game. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds will launch in North America and Europe on November 22nd of this year.

What do you think? Do you like the change? Or do you think they should stick with their proven formula? Are you as excited for the game as I am? Let me know in the comments below!
