Transistor, which was released in May of last year, is set in a futuristic city where players wield a weapon of unknown origin against a series of increasingly difficult robotic enemies.

The game is only the second original game by the small studio; its first game, Bastion, was met with overwhelming success in 2011.

Supergiant Games developer and writer Greg Kasavin noted that Transistor was “selling even faster relative to Bastion during the first couple of months after its launch”.

In less than a year, Transistor has collected nearly a hundred commendations and nominations from throughout the gaming industry.

The success of Bastion and Transistor is hardly surprising, as both feature captivating storylines, beautiful artwork, and stunning musical soundtracks.

While the game is currently available only on the PS4, Mac, Linux, and PC, Supergiant Games has not ruled out bringing Transistor to additional platforms, but noted the challenges involved in doing so.

“Bringing Transistor to new platforms is a significant undertaking for our small team so we don’t take on those kinds of opportunities lightly, as the quality of our game is the most important thing to us.”

That being said, Supergiant Games is releasing Bastion on PS4 and PS Vita later this year, which is something they “wouldn’t have considered” if not for the success of Transistor on PS4, so only time will tell.
