The publisher says that the game is “enhanced for both Xbox One X and PS4 Pro.”

Original story:

The Outer Worlds is set to release in a little more than a week. As we nudge closer to its October 25 launch, we’ve learned a little more about the game’s differences on PS4 and Xbox One.

Namely, the Xbox One version of The Outer Worlds will feature 4K support and other enhancements, while the PlayStation 4 version of the game will not feature any enhancements.

The news comes from Windows Central (via IGN).

To learn more about The Outer Worlds and any potential differences between console versions, Windows Central reached out to the game’s publisher, Private Division, who said the game would feature “4K on Xbox One” but “no enhancements for PS4 Pro.”

Windows Central reached out for comment but has not heard back as of this writing. As can be the case with these sorts of things, no official rationale for the discrepancy was provided by the publisher.

While the game’s full PC system requirements have yet to be released, it’s expected that The Outer Worlds will feature 4K functionality on the platform. That means PS4 players will be the only ones left out in the cold.

Indeed, the PlayStation 4 Pro has the power to push 4K video. Plenty of games, such as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Hitman, Resogun, The Last of Us Remastered, and more take advantage of the graphical enhancement.

Until Private Division or the game’s developer, Obsidian Entertainment, provides further clarification, any reason behind the decision is purely speculative.
