After initially being projected for an unknown summer release date, the first major expansion to the frenzied co-op hack ‘n slash title Vermintide 2 is coming sooner than you may have expected. Winds Of Magic will officially drop via digital outlets on August 13, just one week from today.

Following the smaller map packs Back To Ubersreik and Shadows Over Bögenhafen, the Winds Of Magic expansion brings a brand new enemy type to vex your Warhammer heroes alongside the standard skaven and chaos foes currently available.

In conjunction with the Winds Of Magic release date announcement today, CEO Martin Wahlund of developer Fatshark commented:

As a meteor crashes down in the Reikland, the Beastmen rush to the epicenter to claim it as a Herdstone. It is up to the five heroes to stop them before a dreadful disaster strikes the Empire.

Vermintide 2 continues to grow, and challenge the players in new ways. The Winds of Magic expansion will introduce a new enemy, the Beastmen, as well as new game mode, weapons, and leaderboards.

We can’t wait to see how we rank up against the players on the leaderboards. Or maybe not?

Besides the Beastmen enemies and newly added leaderboard mechanic, Winds Of Magic also sees several new features coming to the game:

  • Dark Omens level
  • Winds game mode for completing challenges with increasing difficulties
  • Winds Of Magic specific progression system featuring weave forged versions of existing items
  • Level cap of 35
  • New talents, including fan-requested Level 30 options
  • One new weapon for all five main heroes
  • New, more challenging Cataclysm difficulty setting

The Winds Of Magic expansion can be pre-ordered now on Steam for $19.99 ahead of the August 13 release date. Check out the new gameplay teaser trailer featuring the Beastmen enemies in action below.
