In playing Dark Souls, you died a lot. A lot. Everyone did.

Have you ever wondered exactly how many times you died? In response to that popular question, a new website called The Dark Souls Death Counter has arrived. This is for people who played the PC version of From Software’s challenging game, and it lets them upload their PC save file so they can see how many times they died during their adventure.

If you don’t know, you can find your save file in “Documents/NBGI/DarkSouls/[your name].” However, bear in mind that your death total won’t include the number of times you died as a phantom. It’s also worth noting that this site doesn’t support the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, but they do encourage you to send them your PS3/360 save file. If they get enough of them, the developers might find a way to make it possible.

They’re also working to add a Death Counter for the upcoming Dark Souls II, which launches tomorrow for the PS3 and 360, and on April 25 for the PC.

Death has its consequences

Death just doesn’t mean much in video games these days. Usually, you just start from a checkpoint and do it again. But in games like Dark Souls, death can be really disappointing, depending on the situation. Me, I’m not into these games, but I can understand the fascination with conquering a significant challenge.
