Whoa! New Crash Bandicoot Game Spotted in the Wild

The 90s platforming icon seems set to take on a new challenge in a completely different genre.

Activision hinted at a new Crash Bandicoot game or two in its latest earnings call, and leaked Facebook advertisements show at least one of those will be a mobile title. The ads have naturally been removed, but as GameSpot spotted, images wound up on Twitter thanks to JumpButton. Storemaven, an app-testing company, briefly hosted a description of the game as well.

Departing from the original PlayStation games, and the Insane Trilogy on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch, the Crash Bandicoot mobile title is reportedly an endless runner. You control Crash and Coco on different tracks across Wumpa Island, trying, as ever, to stop Dr. Neo Cortex’s plans for world domination.

Despite that, the rest of the game seems to carry many of the franchise’s core components: hidden paths, secret collectibles, lush tropical environments, wacky weapons, and lots of exploding boxes.

On top of all that is a new base-building mechanic, where you can do more than just build a base. You’ll create serums for use in stages, repair a rocket ship to take to the Space Station, and collect Blaze pods from the Wumpa Volcano.

Why? The better question is: why not? It’s Crash Bandicoot, and that means everything is dialed up to 15. Plus, it’s just a leaked press release. We really don’t know how most of this warped newness will play out.

Still, it seems like a promising game. We’ll keep our Ooka Ooka masks on lookout for more information, so stay tuned to GameSkinny for more Crash Bandicoot mobile news as it breaks.
