The Wii U manages to outsell any other console during Black Friday, according to Target

Wii U marked as top selling item for Black Friday according to Target

The Wii U manages to outsell any other console during Black Friday, according to Target
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

Today’s the first day of December, and that means Black Friday Weekend sales are officially over. Consoles sell really well during this period since lowered prices on bundles tends to send devices flying off store shelves during the Black Friday sales. However, if you’re a Nintendo of America employee you might be celebrating a little more than Microsoft or Sony.

In a press update issued during the weekend, Target told the press that the Nintendo Wii U did exceptionally well for this period.

“Gaming consoles were popular in stores and online, including Nintendo Wii U, which was the top selling item on Target.com.”

Target.com Press Release

While the exact numbers weren’t released in the press release, Target did mention that they saw a 35% increase for in-store pickup orders this year compared to 2014. If that’s anything to go by, then that means that Nintendo might see the Wii U finally taking off.

I have come to believe that the Smash Splat Deluxe Set Wii U bundle is the culprit for the Wii U’s success this year during Black Friday. The evidence can be found across various online stores where the bundle is constantly listed as a “Best Seller,” such as Walmart’s online page.

The bundle – having sold at only $249.99 during Black Friday ($279.99 in Canada) – is a complete steal compared to any previous Wii U bundle in existence. The Smash Splat Deluxe Set, which included two infinitely replayable popular games leaves no contest for other bundles that usually include one game for $299.00. Hopefully, when we get the solid numbers we’ll be able to find out just how well Nintendo’s Wii U actually sold.

What do you guys think? Did you pick up a Smash Splat bundle? Were they sold out before you showed up? Do you think Nintendo should keep pushing out this bundle a while longer? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below!
