Blizzard’s massively multiplayer online role-playing game World of Warcraft will start shooting in early 2014. Duncan Jones (director of Moon and Source Code) is going to be the director of World of Warcraft. Producer Charles Roven reveals Legendary Pictures‘ plans in an interview last week.

“First quarter 2014 we’re going to shoot that movie,” Roven said. “We’re moving forward. Obviously, Legendary is making that film and I’m having a great time with Duncan [Jones].”

Duncan Jones was enthusiastic about the project because he has “the chance to create a new world,” he said.

The big-screen adaptation of Blizzard’s fantasy series was announced during E3 of 2006. Spider-Man director Sam Raimi (Man of Steel, The Dark Knight, and many others) was chosen to be the director for the film, although he would later drop out, claiming Blizzard “mismanaged” the film.

The teaser had featured an armored warrior taking on a huge green orc. It also shows many other creatures in the teaser, but will it follow the old RTS Warcraft storyline or the new MMO WoW?

Also, Legendary announced that Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond, K-PAX) would write the film’s plot. The Warcraft film is intended for release in cinemas in 2016 and is believed to have a budget that exceeds $100 million!

Will this Warcraft film be any good? Or will it lose to our expectations as another crappy hype-filled animated film? Please leave any comments or questions below.
