After a long period of rumors and speculations, Project Scorpio — Xbox’s upgraded equivalent to the PS4 Pro — has finally revealed its official hardware specs on the YouTube channel Digital Foundry.

According to Eurogamer, Project Scorpio will deliver a new console that pushes its graphics processing up to 6 teraflops of computing speed, and can easily reach 60fps in native 4K resolution. The console itself includes an all-new customized CPU that can process 31% faster than the Xbox One and that’s described as having “evolved” Jaguar cores.

Scorpio will also have a new audio processor with 7.1 surround sound and Dolby Atmos support.

Here are the full specs of Project Scorpio, alongside the same specs for the PS4 Pro as a basis of comparison.

  Project Scorpio PS4 Pro
CPU Eight custom x86 cores clocked at 2.3GHz Eight Jaguar cores clocked at 2.1GHz
GPU 40 customized compute units at 1172MHz 36 improved GCN compute units at 911MHz
Memory 12GB GDDR5 8GB GDDR5
Memory Bandwidth 326GB/s 218GB/s
Hard Drive 1TB 2.5-inch 1TB 2.5-inch
Optical Drive 4K UHD Blu-ray Blu-ray

When mentioning the capabilities of Project Scorpio, Microsoft implied that every Xbox One game should be able to run and display at native 4K resolution. In order to prove this, the company had run a special demo on Scorpio, with Forza Motorsport 6 running on 4K graphics. The result shows that the console can achieve 60fps in the native 4K resolution, while not devoting too many hardware resources to doing so.

Based purely on initial comparisons given its specs, Project Scorpio is technically superior to the PS4 Pro. However, there are still concerns that this doesn’t quite make up for the Xbox One’s lack of notable exclusives — especially when Sony’s console has seen a strong year of exclusives with games like Horizon Zero Dawn. But things may turn around, as Microsoft is rumored to have a promising line-up of Scorpio games for this year’s E3, including Star Wars Battlefront II, Forza Motorsport 7, and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Stay tuned for more information as we learn more about the console!
