Yee-Haw! Concerned Ape Working on Two New Stardew Valley Games

Stardew Valley is undoubtedly one of the most successful indie games of all time, and it just recently passed major sales milestone. However, Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone isn’t content to rest on his laurels and told IGN he has two more games in the works — regardless of the cost on his time.

The first project is one that’s been in the works for a few years now, a non-farming game set in the Stardew Valley world. Barone says his goal is surpassing Stardew Valley in quality in all ways, even though he’s not trying to make another major hit.

At the very least, he’s planning on this new project having twice the level of detail as Stardew, with 32×32 pixel tiles. The trade-off for Barone, though, is the thousands of work hours still left until the finished product is realized.

Barone offered even less detail for the planned second game. He would only say it’s tangentially related to Stardew Valley, and that he started it just for fun. It’s intended to be smaller in scope and might not take as long as the other project.

On top of all this, Barone’s still working on Stardew Valley, with content updates and bug fixes coming out regularly.

With that in mind, it should come as no surprise he says fans shouldn’t expect anything too concrete about these titles anytime soon. He likes to work without too much external pressure and, being a solo developer, has to view his projects as part of a broader picture.

Though Barone said he’s ” thinking about what games I might release ‘this decade,'” he did tease some reveals for some time this year.

We love Stardew Valley quite a bit and will be following ConcernedApe’s new projects as closely as Lewis follows Marnie. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more new Stardew Valley game news as it develops.

But it wasn't until 2017 he started writing about them, after finishing two history degrees and deciding a career in academia just wasn't the best way forward. You'll usually find him playing RPGs, strategy games, or platformers, but he's up for almost anything that seems interesting.
