Call of Duty: Ghosts for PC Will Be 50GB

Ghosts will be the biggest install of the Call of Duty franchise to date, clocking in at about 3x the previously largest game, Modern Warfare 3.

The rig requirements for the PC version of Call of Duty: Ghosts are out, and Activision’s biggest cash cow is going to pack quite a punch – straight to the hard drive.

Development studio Infinity Ward has been making the COD games (with some exceptions) since 2003. With nine titles in the series to date, players have watched the game focus shift from World War II squarely into the present day with the increasing popularity of the Modern Warfare and Black Ops releases. In all that time, the series has ballooned in popularity, making it today the FPS equivalent to World of Warcraft

And now they will see the game size follow suit too. Ghosts will take up 50GB of hard drive space, which will make it the biggest installation of any Call of Duty game to date.

Put in perspective, the COD title that is being booted down to second place for largest amount of space thanks to Ghosts is Modern Warfare 3which takes up 16GB. To follow through with the WoW comparison, the MMORPG Blizzard behemoth takes up a minimum of 51GB with all existing expansions installed – all of that, compared to a single COD title.

The rest of the specs for Ghosts are as follows:

Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7 64-Bit / Windows 8 64-Bit
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 2.66 GHZ / AMD Phenom X3 8750 2.4 GHZ or better
  • RAM: 6 GB RAM
  • HDD: 50 GB HD space
  • Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti / ATI Radeon HD 5870 or better
  • Sound: DirectX Compatible Sound Card
  • DirectX: 11
  • Internet: Broadband connection and service required for Multiplayer Connectivity. Internet connection required for activation.

Recommended System Requirements

  • Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780

There has been no information so far concerning how big Ghosts will be for consoles, but it is likely that it will only take up slightly less than its PC counterpart.

Call of Duty: Ghosts hits shelves on November 5 for concurrent releases on current-gen consoles and PC. Next-gen Ghosts will launch soon after the new hardware releases.

UPDATE: Activision has since released its own list and the size of CoD: Ghosts is 40GBs.
