Activision reports low pre-order numbers for Ghosts, blames next gen

Activision explains the low pre-order numbers for Call of Duty: Ghosts, blaming PS4 and Xbox One.

A new Call of Duty game, Call of Duty: Ghosts, is set to hit the shelves later this year. But after the huge success of its predecessor, Call of DutyBlack Ops II, Call of Duty: Ghosts is struggling to keep up. Activision's Publishing CEO, Eric Hirshberg, noted that pre-order numbers for Call of Duty:Ghosts are "well below the record-setting pace set by Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 last year," and the arrival of the next-gen is to blame. He said,

"Our quantitative consumer research indicates that hesitation amongst past COD pre-orderers is primarily due to not knowing which platform they will be playing on, which is natural at this time in the console transition."

Hirshberg also noted that despite the low pre-order numbers, DLC sales and number of players playing per month are all higher than previous years. He also added that pre-orders are more than double that of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops, which was the last time Activision introduced a new Call of Duty sub-brand.

EA Sports Brand President, Andrew Wilson, reported a similar situation, reporting "softness" in pre-orders for current-gen sports titles as we get closer to the fall and the launch of the PS4 and Xbox One.

So what does the impending arrival of the Playstation 4 and Xbox One mean for upcoming current gen titles?

Wasn't planning on buying it for the PC.
It has AWFUL support for it, guess it's a good excuse for piratebay

Actually no one is buying Ghosts because Black Ops ll killed the franchise. I know I'm not.

I'm not buying it because LagOps 2 sucked so, so bad.

As others have said, I highly doubt next gen is simply the issue. But then even Hollywood does this, look for the obvious reason without considering the possibility that maybe they are to blame.

I doubt it's the fact of new consoles, it's probably the fact that users are starting to see that COD is a dying breed and the hype over it is dying...

Keep running the engine you've used since COD2, that won't get you far!

History repeats itself, look at what happened to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Guitar Hero. Activision milked the series so hard it stagnated on its own

Or maybe people are FINALLY waking up and refusing to buy the same game over and over again?

Bec. Your engine is a low tech. What's the new feature? Dog and fishes. LOL

(I have to reply as my Chrome does not seem to want to post using the normal button)
No, it's not next gen, it's your fault....maybe as it's next gen it's making people want NEW IP, not OLD IP, I bet Halo will get low pre-orders too. Activ, get IW, Tre and Sleg to make their own games, give them creative freedom, I am 100% sure they will make something amazing!!
