AAAAAGGGGHHHHHHHHH. We finally know when we can get our hands on Serious Sam 4. The gory and completely over the top shooter will release sometime in August 2020 for PC and Stadia.

Devolver Digital, the game’s publisher, confirmed to Kotaku that Serious Sam 4 will be exclusive to Stadia for a period of time, though the exact timeframe is still unknown. However, we do know that the game will eventually release on PS4 and Xbox One sometime in 2021.

After years of speculation and waiting on Croteam to shed some light on the title, it’s great to have something set in stone. And it’s great to have a tone of content to sink our teeth into.

Alongside news of Serious Sam 4‘s release date and platforms, Croteam shared a handful of short videos showcasing action-packed gameplay, alongside new information on weapons, enemies, the game’s score, and the new Legion system.

You can see the videos below.

Davor Hunski, Chief Creative Officer at Croteam, said that the core “of the Serious Sam franchise is dancing with enemies and projectiles.” Considering that the Legion system allows for more enemies than Serious Sam players have ever seen on screen at a given time, that seems truer than ever before.

While I’m still a bit dubious about the game running smoothly with “hundreds of thousands” of enemies in a single area, I’m sure as hell excited to check it out.

Gameplay looks as fast and frenetic as Serious Sam fans would expect, and Hunski said that the game is full of guts and gore. Though he didn’t go into great detail in the “Serious Weapons” video above, he does mention “something that will increase the goriness of melee,” something that’s sure to delight.

The team also hinted at new characters making appearances in Serious Sam 4 and not only being important to the game but also future titles. Whatever Croteam has in store, it looks like we’ll be talking about Serious Sam for a while.
