Now that the dust surrounding this year’s Payday 2’s Crimefest has settled, I’d like to talk about whether or not it was really as bad as everyone made it out to be.

Yes, we can all agree that this year was nothing compared to last year’s Crimefest, but it was still really good. OVERKILL really caught fans off guard when, on the first day of Crimefest, they announced that microtransactions would be added to the game through the “Black market update”. It was not the best idea on their part to do this the very first day, but it’s ok, because it all worked out in the end.  A few days later, OVERKILL announced that drills (the microtransactions) could be picked up during end of job card drops if you didn’t want to spend real money. They did what any great company should do. They listened to their customer feedback and made changes accordingly.

The addition of microtransactions was really the only thing that I can understand fans getting mad about.  For the rest of Crimefest, OVERKILL gave fans, new masks, three new jobs, new weapons, new weapon modifications, and even new jumping animations, although that was kind of boring.

The point I’m trying to make is that not all Crimefests are going to be as amazing as 2014’s was, and just because they had an off year this year doesn’t mean fans need to freak out and act like the dev is killing the game. We shouldn’t be acting like this is the end of Payday 2, because OVERKILL didn’t even have to give us all this stuff for free. They are doing it because it’s a way to reward and thank fans for playing their game. They could just as easily say “forget it” and not give us anything at all. And if we keep being this spoiled, maybe they will.

But instead, they’ve gone out of their way to make new content for us and they give it to us all for free during Crimefest. Sure they may have slipped up with the microtransactions, but they corrected it ASAP. So everyone just calm down and understand that it actually wasn’t all that bad.
