The Last Of Us 2 Pixelates Into PS1-Style Demake

This is what The Last of Us 2 would look like if it released on the original PlayStation.

YouTuber Bearly Regal is at it again with another PS1-style “demake” of a major title, this time giving us a gloriously low-res version The Last of Us 2. You can check out six minutes of footage made in Dreams via the YouTube clip above.

The attention to detail is frankly amazing, as is the on-point soundtrack. The clip was put together with Media Molecule’s Dreams game-creation platform and deconstructed from footage of previously released The Last Of Us 2 demo gameplay.

This isn’t Bearly Regal’s first demake rodeo, having previously put together PS1 renditions of Hideo Kojima’s bizarre Death Stranding, as well as the upcoming open-world RPG Cyberpunk 2077

The Last Of Us 2’s release date is currently set for May 29, following a recent delay announcement from developer Naughty Dog. Director Neil Druckmann commented on the delay:

While we’re relieved that we won’t have to compromise our vision, we’re disappointed that we weren’t able to avoid this exact situation. We wish we could’ve foreseen the amount of polish we needed, but the size and scope of this game got the better of us. We hate disappointing our fans and for that we’re sorry.

We hope you understand that this additional time ensures that The Last of Us Part 2 lives up to our collective ambition as well as our commitment to the highest level of quality. We know the extra few months will add to what may already be an excruciating wait for all of us. We are grateful for your patience and continued support.
