Octopath Traveler Hits One Million Units Sold
Octopath Traveler, the new retro-style throwback to JRPGs of old, has just passed the one million sold mark globally. The news comes via Nintendo of Europe's Twitter, in which they thank everyone for the support as well as showcase new artwork from the developers at Square-Enix.
Octopath Traveler is not only an homage to JRPGs from the 16-bit era, but it also pushes the genre forward by implementing new battle mechanics never before utilized in JRPGs. The game includes eight short stories rather than the traditional story of one group of characters venturing out together.
Square-Enix did not anticipate how in-demand physical copies of the game would be, leading to wide-spread shortages in retailers across Japan. Square issued an apology for this and has increased production to meet demand.
GameSkinny gave it a 9/10. Check out our review and find out why we call it "a return to form for Square-Enix."
