Nutjitsu Review: Simple and Addictive

Nutjisu is a small game available for Xbox One and Windows 8. Don’t let the simple aspect of the game fool you though, it’s actually a lot of fun to play.

This game reminds me of the past where games were much simpler and you could pick up and play for short bursts if needed. Now, I love the progression you get in modern games, but it’s nice that I’m able to play a game for maybe twenty minutes and still get fulfillment.

That’s what Nutjitsu does, but it also shows progress and has unlockables for a deeper experience.

Pac-Man with Power-ups

Seriously, this is the best way to describe it. Think of it as a modern-day Pac-Man combined with ninja/stealth games. The difference here, is the ability to use power-ups to get past enemies. 

You play as a ninja squirrel staying hidden from squirrel samurai. You don’t collect dots or fruit in this one, you collect acorns.

You leave footprints that vanish after a while everywhere you go. Enemies that see these, follow them until they catch you or lose the trail.

You can stop them from catching you by either running away or using power-ups. You can only equip two types of power-ups at one time.

• You can use smoke bombs to become invisible. This makes them lose the trail and you can walk through enemies.
• Speed potions give you a burst of speed for a while.
• You can even make clones to distract your enemies and use other helpful power-ups as you level up.

A Variety of Modes for Everyone.

The game has two modes, Ninja Missions and Survival. Survival is just that, see how long you can survive before being caught.

Ninja Missions is the core game play experience and has several to choose from.

The different game modes have different objectives to complete the missions and you can do them on multiple levels. One requires you to collect acorns, while another requires you to hide in specific locations for a certain amount of time.

There’s enough to keep the game play fresh, and there are higher levels of difficulty for those that want a challenge. You get experience and coins for doing missions, even if you fail, that you use to unlock items.

You unlock levels as well as power-ups when you level up. This gives the game a sense of progression so you can have fun at short bursts, and still feel like you’re accomplishing something.

This is a fun experience that I recommend to gamers of all ages. Try it, you’ll probably find it’s more fun than it looks.
