Two Classic Oddworld Games Coming to Switch in 2020

On top of Stranger's Wrath, the Switch will host two classic games in the cult-classic series sometime later this year.

We’ve known for a while that Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath is coming to Nintendo Switch in January — but that’s not all. Yesterday, French publisher Microids announced a partnership with Oddworld Inhabitants to bring two more Oddworld games to the Switch sometime this year.

Don’t expect Oddworld: Soulstorm to be one of those games, though. Microids CEO Stéphane Longeard said the additional two Oddworld games are classics in the Oddworld series and will “fit quite nicely in our catalog where retro gaming has a prominent place.”

Because “classic” is emphasized, and there aren’t that many Oddworld games to begin with, chances are these additional two will be Abe’s Oddysee and Abe’s Exoddus. Both games offer the franchise’s signature wit and biting satire and still hold up as quality games after more than two decades.

Microids will reportedly take steps to ensure that quality shines through in the Switch versions, with Longeard saying, “We are going to help as much as we can to ensure these masterpieces get the spotlight they deserve.”

It’s a major turnaround for the series’ relationship with Nintendo after creator Lorne Lanning infamously criticized Nintendo’s lack of indie promotion and predicted the Switch would fail like the Wii U. Neither of those predictions has panned out thus far, with the Switch continuing to sell like hotcakes and promoting a robust indie catalog.
