Less than twenty-four hours after the app’s launch outside of the Japan, Nintendo UK took to Twitter to celebrate this milestone.

Miitomo first launched in Japan on March 17th, where it saw a similarly expeditious rise in popularity, accruing one third of its 3 million current users. The social app focuses on customizing the player’s personal avatar (or Mii) with cosmetics and personality traits. Players may answer personal questions asked by their Miis, which are then publicized for friends to see, like and comment on.

A recent interview with Nintendo’s product marketing manager Bill Trinen yielded some of the company’s plans for potential updates for the social app, which include changes as small as adding variety to the minigames and as large as intergrations with future Nintendo mobile apps. He said:

“Our development team is looking at it very much as just the initial release…They’ll probably start by looking at how people are playing with Miitomo and how they’re interacting with it. But I think they’re looking at a couple of different ways that Miitomo will grow over time. “

Nintendo plans on releasing as many as five mobile games by March 2017. While Miitomo adopts a free-to-play model, with cosmetic items purchasable through microtransactions or in-game rewards, the other expected mobile games will require a purchase upon downloading.
